ALT and TITLE attributes

ALT is meant to be an alternative text description for images. It displays before the image loads and is required. It can only be used for image tags.

Alternatively, TITLE can be used for just about any page element but isn’t required. Use it for links, tables, table rows, etc. Note, many search engine algorithms read the text in TITLE attributes as regular page content.
